A Dungeon is a private maze you buy with Duct Tape. A portal opens near you. Step through it and you are inside a dark, walled labyrinth full of guards, bosses, auto turrets and wild animals. Clear everything and you get loot boxes full of resources and gear, Chimera Coins (CC) and skill XP.
There are six tiers. Pick any tier you can afford.
At a glance#
| Entry currency | Duct Tape (the vanilla component item) |
| Start command | /buydungeon <tier>, or open the event panel with /call or /events |
| Tiers | Easy, Normal, Medium, Hard, Nightmare, Impossible |
| Time limit | Enter within 30 minutes. Then 60 minutes inside (90 on Nightmare and Impossible) |
| Who can enter | You, your team and your friends |
| Rewards | Loot boxes, guard and boss drops, CC per kill, a CC clear bonus, skill XP |
Step 1: get Duct Tape#
- Duct Tape is a normal Rust component. You find it in crates and loot around the map.
- You can buy it in the market. Type
/shop, open SpecialItems, and buy Duct Tape for 1,000 CC each. See Economy. - Dungeon loot boxes can roll more Duct Tape. On the top tiers, a full clear can bring back more than you spent.
Step 2: buy a dungeon#
Type /call (or /events) and pick a dungeon tier, or type the command yourself:
| Tier | Command | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | /buydungeon easy |
5 Duct Tape |
| Normal | /buydungeon normal |
10 Duct Tape |
| Medium | /buydungeon medium |
20 Duct Tape |
| Hard | /buydungeon hard |
40 Duct Tape |
| Nightmare | /buydungeon nightmare |
80 Duct Tape |
| Impossible | /buydungeon impossible |
100 Duct Tape |
Typing /buydungeon on its own opens the event panel.
The Duct Tape is taken from your inventory when you buy. Your request joins a short queue while the dungeon is built. Then:
- a portal appears at the nearest open spot to you,
- a marker shows it on the map, and chat announces "A Dungeon: Hard dungeon purchased by ... has appeared at grid ...".
Step 3: go in#
- Walk into the portal to enter. Wait until it has finished building.
- Only you, your team and your friends can enter a dungeon you bought.
- The portal has a 10 m protection bubble. Inside it, you and your allies cannot be hurt from outside, and you can build and place deployables, for example a sleeping bag or a box.
Rules inside#
- It is always midnight inside. Lights are placed along the corridors, but bring a flashlight or night vision.
- No shooting through walls. Bullets only count if you have a clear line to a guard's body. Explosives and fire always count.
- If you die, your body is moved out to the portal exit, so you can recover your loot outside. Your backpack does not drop inside the dungeon.
/removeand the remove tool are blocked inside.- If everyone leaves, the guards walk back to their posts after 60 seconds.
What changes per tier#
Each dungeon is built from maze sections joined by corridors. Higher tiers have more sections, tougher walls and more of everything.
| Tier | Maze sections | Guards | Guard health | Guard weapon | Guard damage | Bosses | Boss health | Turrets | Animals | Loot boxes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 1 | 7 Wild Scavengers | 100 | Revolver | 50% | 1 | 1,000 | 5 | 4 | 5 |
| Normal | 2 | 14 Battle Foragers | 150 | Custom SMG | 80% | 2 | 1,500 | 10 | 6 | 10 |
| Medium | 3 | 21 Crimson Raiders | 200 | Semi-auto rifle | 110% | 5 | 2,000 | 15 | 8 | 15 |
| Hard | 4 | 26 Elite Outlaws | 250 | AK | 130% | 5 | 3,000 | 20 | 8 | 25 |
| Nightmare | 5 | 31 Nightmare Hunters | 300 | M249 | 150% | 10 | 5,000 | 25 | 8 | 30 |
| Impossible | 6, larger | 5 Impossible Hunters | 300 | M249 | 150% | 30 | 5,000 | 20 | 12 | 25 |
- Bosses hit at 150% damage. The Easy boss carries an AK. Every other boss carries an M249.
- Turrets get tougher: 300 health with a revolver on Easy, 400 on Normal, then AK turrets with 600, 800, 1,000 and 1,500 health.
- Animals have 300 health each and can be boars, wolves, stags, chickens, panthers, tigers or crocodiles.
- Walls go from gingerbread (Easy) and old wood (Normal) to brick (Medium), sheet metal (Hard) and top tier (Nightmare, Impossible).
Warning: Impossible is a boss rush: 30 bosses with 5,000 health each. Bring a full team.
Time limits#
- You must enter within 30 minutes of buying, or the dungeon is removed.
- From the moment someone first enters, you have 60 minutes (Easy to Hard) or 90 minutes (Nightmare and Impossible). When time runs out, everyone inside is teleported out and the dungeon is deleted.
- There is no refund for a dungeon you did not finish.
Clearing the dungeon#
A dungeon counts as cleared when every guard, every turret and every loot box is gone.
Tip: Loot boxes do not vanish when you empty them. Break each box after you loot it, or the clear bonus never triggers.
When the dungeon is cleared:
- The doors open.
- The clear rewards are paid (see below).
- After 2 minutes, everyone still inside is teleported out and the dungeon is removed. Grab any last loot bags first.
Rewards#
CC per kill. Each guard or animal you kill pays you CC straight away. Chat says "RP", but it is Chimera Coins.
| Tier | CC per kill | Clear bonus (CC) | Clear skill XP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 5 | 50 | 500 |
| Normal | 6 | 20 | 1,000 |
| Medium | 7 | 40 | 1,500 |
| Hard | 8 | 50 | 2,000 |
| Nightmare | 9 | 100 | 2,500 |
| Impossible | 10 | 250 | 5,000 |
- The clear bonus goes to the player who bought the dungeon. If the buyer is offline, it goes to a player inside.
- The clear skill XP goes to every player inside when the dungeon is cleared, and each one gets the full amount toward their skill level. See Progression.
Loot boxes. Each box holds up to 3 items on Easy, rising by one per tier to 8 on Impossible. Boxes roll from a tier table of resources, components, ammo, medical supplies, explosives and weapons. Higher tiers add rockets, C4, rifles, the M249, the minigun and weapon attachments.
Duct Tape back. Each box picks a few random items from its table, so not every box has Duct Tape. When it rolls, the amount grows with the tier:
| Tier | Duct Tape per box, when it rolls |
|---|---|
| Easy | 3 to 5 |
| Normal | 5 to 8 |
| Medium | 8 to 12 |
| Hard | 12 to 18 |
| Nightmare | 30 to 40 |
| Impossible | 18 to 28 |
Named gear. Every tier's boxes also have a small chance at named gear pieces and weapons:
| Tier | Named items that can drop |
|---|---|
| Easy | Melting Steel, Bulwark Gloves, Skyguard Kilt |
| Normal | Excalibur, Bulwark Boots, Skyguard Gloves |
| Medium | Melting Steel, Bulwark Facemask, Skyguard Boots |
| Hard | Nature's Touch, Bulwark Hoodie, Skyguard Hoodie |
| Nightmare | Excalibur, Bulwark Pants, Skyguard Pants, Vanguard Pants |
| Impossible | Wrathful Smite, Bulwark Kilt, Skyguard Facemask |
See Gear sets and Legendary weapons.
Guard and boss drops. Guards and bosses drop from a shared table. Scrap (500 to 2,000) is common, with a chance at rifles, rockets and ammo.
Cooldowns and limits#
- You can own one dungeon at a time.
- After you clear a dungeon, you wait 10 minutes before buying the same tier again.
- Up to 2 bought dungeons of each tier, and 6 in total, can be open on the server. If the cap is reached, try again later.
Note: If you own a Cooldown Reset Token, type
/resetcdto clear your event cooldowns, including Dungeons.
Tips#
- Start on Easy. It only costs 5 Duct Tape and teaches you the maze layout.
- Take turrets out from around corners, one at a time. They shred you in the open corridors.
- Use explosives on bosses behind cover. Explosive and fire damage ignore the line-of-sight rule.
- Stay inside for the final kill so you get the clear XP.
- Put a sleeping bag inside the portal bubble before you go in.
