Getting Started

Zero to hero - your first hour, first day, first week, the mid game, the endgame, and what happens at every wipe.

Checked against the live server 6 Oct 2026

Blight Light is a PvE survival-horror server for Rust. Other players cannot raid you. The danger is the island: the Blight that breaks out every hour, the creatures that hunt players who go quiet, the dead that rise at night, and the bosses behind it all. This page takes you from your first spawn to the endgame, one step at a time. Every step links to the page that explains it in full.

Before you join#

  • Join the Discord. It has the server address, wipe announcements and people to play with.
  • Once you are in, type /welcome for the rules, the wipe schedule and links. The rules are on Server Basics.
  • The map and blueprints wipe on the first Thursday of every month at 12:00 PM MST.

Your first hour#

  1. Pick your role. A few seconds after you join, the Personnel screen opens. Pick one of six roles: it gives you bonuses and 2 to 5 free skill points, and it lasts the whole wipe, so read them all first. /role opens it again. See Roles.
  2. Spend your points. Type /st and put them into the first skill of a path. See Progression.
  3. Use your free kit. Every respawn in your first 10 hours of play gives you a basic kit. See Kits.
  4. Pick up everything. Wood piles, hemp, stones and ore on the ground give far more than in vanilla Rust. At night you gather double, and every level adds more.
  5. Build. Nobody can raid you, so build where you like. Stand on your foundation and type /sethome base to save a home (you get 2), then /home base to get back.
  6. Open your backpack. Everyone has a free backpack: /backpack. It stays with you when you die. See Quality of Life.

Tip: Once you reach skill level 15, zombies rise around you at night. Stay inside your base, under a roof, until you are ready for them. See Night Zombies.

Your first day#

  • Take the easy quests. Type /q and do the three Getting Started quests and every daily. Then open /journal: the Blight story, your role's job and the monthly line are offered to you there. See Quests.
  • Fill your Blight Pass. Every quest you claim, and the daily reward (/pass daily), adds pass XP. Its 30 levels all have a reward. See Blight Pass.
  • Meet the Blight. Every hour a Blight breaks out somewhere: chat names the grid. Get inside, hold E on the concentration and fight the waves for Blight Fragments. See Blight Events.
  • Start earning Chimera Coins (CC). CC is the main currency and it never wipes. Quests, voting, events, monument crews and military crates all pay it. Check it with /balance or /bank. See Economy.
  • Vote. /vote then /claim. Your first votes pay 1,000 to 2,500 CC each, plus items. See Voting & Rewards.
  • Learn the teleports. /arena opens the teleport menu (the Hub, the Town, the boss arena and more), /outpost and /bandit take you to the safe zones, and /tpr <player> asks to teleport to a friend. See Quality of Life.

Your first week#

  • Try your first event at the lowest tier. An Easy Dungeon for 5 Duct Tape, an Easy Raidable Base for 100 CC, or an Easy Heli for 500 CC. Or pay 500 Scrap and defend your own base in RaidMe. /call opens the panel.
  • Join the world events. Sputnik, the Pirate Ship, the Armored Convoy, the Armored Train and the Arc Drone run on their own timers, and random contests pop up every hour or two. See World Events.
  • Help The Offering. Give items with /offering. Every item earns you points toward your own tiers, and every online player gets rewards as items are finished. See The Offering.
  • Start producing. Advanced chicken coops, planters and beehives run with no upkeep. See Farming.
  • Bank your coins. Coin items from crates and sales go into your balance with /deposit. The bank's ATMs also open your vault, storage that never wipes. See Economy.

Mid game#

  • Get a quarry. You need a Mining Quarry or Pump Jack item and survey charges. See Quarries & Pump Jacks.
  • Upgrade your industry. Faster furnaces, better refineries and levelled recyclers. See Furnaces, Refineries & Recyclers.
  • Craft beyond vanilla. /craft makes military guns, elite rifles and raid supplies. See Crafting and Cooking.
  • Gear up. Collect set pieces, take the Luck skills, and hunt the 24 legendary weapons. See Gear Sets, Gear Luck and Legendary Weapons.
  • Explore. Keycards lead to a red card, and custom places like Alcatraz and the Nuclear Submarine hide good loot. See Exploration.
  • Watch your back. The Stalker hunts players who farm alone, and the Mimic waits at monuments dressed like you. See The Blight.

Endgame#

  • Arena bosses. Spend your fragments on boss fights: /buyboss, from the free World Breaker to the 50-fragment Warden and Corrupted Juggernaut. Bring a team of up to 8. See Bosses & the Arena.
  • The mini bosses. Robert the Builder and the Rider of the Apocalypse turn up on their own when the server has been busy. See The Blight.
  • The Virulent path. The Blight's own skills open at skill level 20. See The Blight.
  • The hardest tiers. Nightmare and Impossible dungeons, Nightmare raids and RaidMe, Elite Helis and the full heli wave.
  • Close the Month. Finish the month's quest line for a permanent vault slot. See Quests.
  • Prestige. At skill level 100 you can prestige, up to 5 times, for a lasting XP bonus. See Progression.
  • Your record. Climb the /leaderboard, build your mastery in /codex, and earn badges and titles on the website. See Achievements & Leaderboard.
